The Project

The mechanisms of nucleation, radiation, and arrest of seismic fractures remain poorly understood. This leaves a fundamental question in seismology still unanswered: “How do earthquakes begin, and what controls their final size?”

Foreseeing

The FORESEEING project aims to address this critical challenge by leveraging all available resources—data, tools, theories, experiments, and models—to uncover the physical processes that drive earthquake generation.

Research outcomes from FORESEEING will provide concrete support to both the scientific community and emergency management agencies. These findings will be integrated into Earthquake Early Warning systems, helping to trigger timely, life-saving responses, reduce damage, and enhance societal resilience.

This ambitious goal will be pursued through an interdisciplinary approach, investigating the rupture process from multiple angles. It will be driven by a team of motivated and brilliant young researchers, working in close synergy and guided by a shared vision.
